a baby fence

which sharpie reveals to be a snake monster!

We've started cleaning out the apartment. Who knows when we'll actually need to move? But we're throwing stuff out or packing it up. Found various bits of past lying around. And then I saw a snake monster!

Soundtrack: Continuing chaos
Cat: Still hiding out

Project 365: Day Twenty Eight Ah ah ah!

a pile of clothes in the bathroom

or a face!

ben chillin' with katie

katie is not as relaxed as ben is

I used to see faces everywhere. Piles of clothes, wadded up papers towels, wood grain. I almost never took pictures of it or drew it or in anyway recorded it. I have since discovered I come from a family of face-seers. I hope to use Project 365 as way to start seeing faces again, and sharing them.

Project 365: Day Twenty Seven Ah ah ah!

ben, my primary source for project 365 pictures

intense!

Just Ben pictures today. Sam and I have been working on editing/exporting/uploading all the pictures from Ohio. It has meant, for me, less time taken with Project 365. Also, it is f@#$ing cold outside.

Project 365: Day Twenty One Ah ah ah!

'ey!

The light was a little dim and so my depth of field was tiny. Combine all that with Ben constantly being in motion and I take picture with his shirt in focus, but not his face or hand.

Cat: Suspiciously absent

Sadly, it was a flash photography day. Things just didn't come together on the photo front.

Project 365: Day 19... I did not forget.

the weird snow spikes that have survived, hidden from the sun

ben kicking the snows

sam signs to ben

Sorry about the long pause. We just took the photos of the past coupla days off the camera late last night.
I've been a big fan of those little snow spikes; I'll probably post a few more pictures of them if they're still around the next few days.
Ben likes kicking and stomping snow, and I hope to slowly increase the number of action shots as the weather gets nicer.
The reflection is from Sam's work. We were leaving after visiting Sam during her lunch.

Soundtrack: Some lady singing to Grover about introducing yourself to strangers

Project 365: Day 18

dramatically little light

crazy spiky branches

weird glare and awesome crystals

i want to zoom in forever

As you can see, there were crystals everywhere this morning. As the sun rose the crystals fell and melted, but for a while the world was dramatically furry looking. We switched up lenses this morning, and that allowed to take better shots of high branches.

Soundtrack: Plastic balls rolling down tracks

still thinking about winter colors

winter colors, depth, and motion

color, motion, composition

Sam, Ben, and I drove around today looking at neighborhoods, houses, and driving times. I also took quite a few pictures from the car, and I wasn't sure how to edit them. I messed around a little bit, and this is what I came up with.

Today pickin's were a little better, but I wasn't keeping track of the camera settings. A little win some lose some. I had a good time playing around with extreme exposure settings in editing.

Project 365: Day 12

katie in her burrow

spinning a lenscap

ben would like a high five

I'm done with this shifty picture thing. It was a formatting disaster. So fah I said, and washed my hands of it.

The shot of Katie was the first picture of the day, but I did take because I liked the colors. I could have chosen a worse start.

The spinning lenscap isn't the best shot, but I took it as an experiment and reminder. I wanted to see how sharp the text would be, but also I wanted something to remind to play around with spinning subjects. I don't do much with subjects in motion.

Soundtrack: Garbage - Paranoid
Cat: ?

Project 365: Day 11!

The lighting was weird today. Very blue. It made reds really stand out. Combine that with the ground's saturation depleted by coatings of snow and salt, and Ben contrasted with his surroundings everywhere he walked.

The yellows and oranges of the wet board caught my eye against the blue grey of the cement.

Inside the light shifts to warm soft glow. Ben was shuffling around in my shoes. Pretty freakin' adorable.

Project 365: Day 10! In Which I Temporarily Switch Titling Systems

All right, check out this craziness!

New title system, perhaps for the next ten days? Perhaps forever? And this new crazy text off to the side thing! We'll see what happens.

So, this is a prime illustrator of "take a picture as soon as you find the camera so you have a picture for the day." I do like like Katie appearing distressed to be near Ben. She won't move, but she'll put her ears back. Good thinking.

This new system is harder to edit than I had hoped. Is it doomed? Maybe!

So this is a picture of my second artist trading card. It is not finished, and I'm hiding the left side of it with my hand so that if the person I'm giving it to is following this blog, there will still be some surprise to receiving it.

In other news, I love Faber-Castell PITT artist pens.

This photo I would have taken even without the Project 365 quota. This is a learning photo; I mostly see in it what I need to work on. The lens I was using was not appropriate to the shot. To fit all four tables in, I had to stand where the light no longer reflected with the quality that inspired me to take the shot. A few feet to the left, the light reflected off the tables in a strong gradient. In this shot you only see the lighting difference between the three tables and the lone table. I also did not notice the chair between the tables because I was concentrating on the table tops.
Whole picture awareness is one of my greatest weaknesses. I too often focus on getting specific elements where I want them, and totally ignore other elements. I did not see the dancing bear the first time. So, my best shot of this group doesn't have the gradient I want, and has a superfluous chair with a faux buttprint.
